Chocolates earned its bad reputation because it tastes good, but your favorite guilty pleasure isn't all that bad. In fact, chocolates have beneficial antioxidants called flavonoids that can help reduce the negative effects of "bad" cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Recent studies even claim that it can lower your blood pressure and reduce the growth of cancer cells! An added study made by Athens Medical School in Greece shows that chocolate positively affects the endothelial cells in the walls of the blood vessels, an overall indication of the health of the cardiovascular system. Their study also showed that cells were able to successfully regulate the flexibility of the vessel and influence blood clotting.
But like any other food, it's in the amount of chocolates you eat the will determine if the "sinful" stuff will harm or benefit you. Eating them is no foolproof way to prevent heart disease and cancer; on the contrary, they can lead to weight gain which is bad for your heart.
Well, so much for chocolates.![]()
